Do you know what Hajj is? It’s a special journey that Muslims make to a place called Mecca in Saudi Arabia. It’s one of the five pillars of Islam, which means it’s very important for Muslims to do it at least once in their lifetime. Hajj takes place in the last month of the Islamic calendar, and it coincides with Eid al-Adha, a festival that commemorates the sacrifice of Prophet Ibrahim and his son Ismail.
But how can you introduce your kids to Hajj and its significance? That’s what we did on 26 June 2023, when we organized a Hajj Simulation Program at FMKids Daycare Centre. It was an interactive and educational way to expose our kids to the culture and rituals of Hajj.
What We Did For FMKids Hajj Simulation Program
The program consisted of various activities that simulated some of the main steps of Hajj, such as:
Pre-Hajj registration by preparing visa as well as understanding the do's and don'ts
Wearing ihram, which is a white cloth that signifies purity and equality among all pilgrims
Performing tawaf, which is circling the Kaaba seven times while reciting “Labbaik Allahumma Labbaik” (Here I am, O Allah, here I am), which is the declaration of intention for Hajj
Throwing pebbles at jamrah, which are three pillars that represent the temptations of the devil. This is to show that we reject evil and obey Allah’s commands
During these activities, our kids also learned some Arabic words and phrases related to Hajj, such as “Talbiyah” (the prayer recited during Hajj), “Safa” and “Marwah” (two hills that pilgrims run between during Hajj), and “Arafat” (a plain where pilgrims stand and pray on the day of Hajj).
What We Gained From FMKids Hajj Simulation Program
The children enjoyed doing all these activities and learning new things. They also gained some benefits from this program, such as:
Gaining a better understanding of Islam and its values
Appreciating the diversity and richness of different cultures and traditions
Developing their social and emotional skills through interaction and cooperation with others
Enhancing their language skills by learning new words and expressions in Arabic
We want to thank all the parents, FMKids teacher and staff who supported and participated in this program. We hope to continue to provide more educational and cultural programs for our kids in the future.
